PARIKRAMA

“How can Parikrama ever forget Autumn Muse, after all this was OUT FIRST EVER SHOW  in Bangalore.I still remember when i went to meet Felix from Reynolds,in a guest house in GK 1, New Delhi, and he telling me about the gig, i was pretty exited, i guess it was 1992-93.Finally he got us the first gig in Bangalore and it was St.John’s med college.WE got in a huge number of fireworks and that time we had no crew. So, Parikrama band members took up, to the roof, about 400 bricks,to cover each firework with approx 4-5 bricks, for safety, we did all by our bare hands. The roof of the college had a huge human skeleton as well, wonder if it is still there.before our performance began, we were greeted by a huge CACTUS plant thrown on the stage, as ppl just did not know us then, and then we started playing….out went the stem and people’s fear…they accepted a NEW band from delhi, about whom hardly any people had known then…..it wld be great to get back to the same stage and we r really looking fwd to it, cheerz !!! Autumn muse, here we come again ”

DNA NewspaperAn article titled’ Would-be docs stage plays to promote health issues’ was published by the DNA Daily on Dec. 4 ,2009 about the Mad Med Men Jnrs. of St. Johns Medical College. (Batch of 2007)

Bangalore: Here’s a amateur theatre group but with a social purpose. The group named Mad Med Men Juniors, uses the medium of theatre to spread awareness about various health issues like Thalassemia and childhood obesity, among others.

The young minds behind these plays are not from any drama school, but from St Johns Medical College, a prestigious medical college of the city.

“We believe that laughter is the best medicine. We have been involved in spreading social awareness about various issues through our mimes, skits, plays, etc and most of the times we convey our message through humour,” said Nitin Yashas, a member of the team. It’s their underlying theme of their drama that the unconventional name of the groupattempts to convey, Nitin added. For the nine members — Jino Joy, Nitin Yashas, Jobin Jose, Babush Jose,

Roshan Valentine, Jeson John, Joseph Eugene, Nidhin Varghese and Arut Chezian — theatre is an art form that is supposed to give back something to the society.

“Mad Med Men was originally formed by the batch of 2003.They have been our inspiration,” said Jino Joy, a student of St Johns Medical College. And in the past few months, the activities of the team had brought smiles on the faces of many children. “Along with the department of community medicine, we performed a skit at Madiwala High School which reflected on the causes behind childhood obesity and ways to deal with it,” said Roshan Valentine.

The team focuses on issues of everyday life. “We choose simple language and try to bring in scenes with which the children can relate to. For example, the childhood obesity skit tells the story of a boy who keeps sitting in a couch and keeps gorging on chips, snacks etc,” said Babush Jose. According to the members, the difficult part is to maintain the comic tone in the play.

“Performing this skit also gave us a chance to understand more about HIV pre-test and post-test counselling. Though the content was more technical, we took care not to compromise on humour,” said Jobin Jose.

A three day cultural fest ‘COBALT SKIES’ was organized by BMC on the 22nd,23rd and 24th of October’09.
In keeping with the true Johnite spirit we were all eager to participate and put our best foot forward! Since the seniors were busy with exams, batches ‘08 and ‘09 teamed up and took part in most events.
All of us…the juniors of ‘09 were  eager to take part in our very first  inter collegiate cultural fest as Johnites…! It was a perfect opportunity for us not only to display our talents but to unearth some as well.

"Aagnya"

"Aagnya"

Encouraged by the accolades we received after the performance at ‘FAREWELL’,our dance team ‘AAGNYA’ participated in the Theme Dance event and depicted Indian Mythology. We competed against 8 other colleges,PESIT being our toughest competitors. However a bit of last minute improvisation and extra hours of practice(not to mention extra members…still don’t know how 14 of us managed to sync!)
seemed to pay off as we bagged the 1st place!winning a cash prize of 5k.We were exuberant!…more because our seniors told us their “baby juniors” had done them proud!
Students of ‘09 took part in other events too…Quiz,Personality,Jam,Western electric…The fest gave us good exposure and we gained a lot of insight. It was fun working with the seniors of ‘08 and getting to know them better.
We are really grateful to our seniors(especially the committee members) who despite their exams always kept themselves informed about the on goings. They were a constant source of help and encouragement…egged us on to go for a win…and of course..to have the time of our lives!(you bet we did!)
All in all it was an amazing first experience and all of us are avidly anticipating more fun times ahead!
