congrats to all the winners and the participants. a big thank you to everyone involved. the informal events must deserve a mention too. batch of 2008 winning malayalm antakshari. safiya of 2009 winning the worst PJ award, Nobin and Steve winning the best PJ award. the Pj competition fully lived upto its name. extemp dance was won by michelle followed by anil of msc. andrew walked away with best entertainer while almost everyone shaked a leg.
a befitting finale in campus dinner wid irony of fate and the Gig gang enthralling the audience. irony of fate belted out the poular number rainmaker which was apt for the situation. while Dr. alex, Dr. richard and sendhil and rahul were amazing with their renditions of foxy lady, slither, etc.
a memorable action packed week neverthless. hope the mementoes last long.
allright. first of all a huge apology for putting this late by 2 weeks. but what happened 2 weeks back at VISAGES-2010 inter collegiate fest conducted by St.Josephs College of arts and science is a perfect example of the strength of the Johnite cultural team.
out of 20 events and with the total number of participants being a small number of 15 members, more den half the prizes were won which deemed us to be the overall winners.the fest was of a different genre with very few standard cultural events as the theme was heritage and culture of india.
progress was bleak on day 1 with only the mad med men 07 winning laugh out loud( which further emphasized the fact that action speak louder than words considering the unecessary animosity and unsportsmanship showed by a college in CUL -ah) , and the juniormost batch of 2009 winning creative writing and painting.
however the following day which was incidentally he 14th of February, it was raining prizes. 2 prizes in quiz, 1st in debate, 1st in western solo and cartooning( the prize being an ipod shuffle) and 2nd in mono actng was enough to ensure that we were the college to have won the most number of events.
first victory after officialy taking over the committee is always special and sweet. a big thank you to everyone who were a part of this fest, not just by participating but also by their encouragement and interest in the fest that made a difference. lets hope that this is the beginning of many more to come.

CUL AH 2010-jungle fever an inter collegiate fest was conducted by mount carmel college from the 4th to the 6th of february. the fest lived upto its theme of jungle fever with the 3 days being a wild ride through the forests(???) and the numerous corridors of MCC. with the events being held at different venues, it was but natural to get lost in the myriad of buildings in MCC.
day 0: day 0 actually represents the days before the fests. informing people from different batches can be hard but coaxing them and convincing them to attend is even harder. the fest brochure also adhered to the theme of jungle fever as evinced by the fact that deciphering the rules and schedule of the events took ages!!!!!!
day 1: the tone and the momentum for the fest was set by the Mad Med Men Jnrs from the batch of 2007. though their excuse of the junglee traffic of bangalore being the reason for their late arrival was not accepted by the organizers, their performance had the audience asking for more which prompted the team to extend their performance beyond the time limit. though a non competitive event, they were declared to be the best and the most entertaining team.its a privilege for me to be a part of this wonderful and energetic team. though st.johns had only 1 representation in the western solo dance event, it made its presence felt in the event. roshan cristina from the batch of 2009 used her repuatiion as an ex carmelite and her dance moves to set the stage on fire and became the only female participant to qualify for the final where she came 4th. lisa from the batch of 2008 emerged first in funky fonts and after persuading a tired nd exhausted jino joy to take part in debate, we emrged 3rd and i got best speaker. anusha battula from the batch of 2007 after searching for a mobile phone with a camera for more than 24 hours made sure that her efforts were not in vain by finishing 2nd in mobile photography. pravin singarayar from the batch of 2007 qualified for the finals of sudoku but made that tiny mistake in the final of filling up 1 box which cost him the event. it was a bit disappointing to end day 1 on 27 points. 22 points behind the leaders. what was more disappointing was the miscommunication with the organisers which prevented us from taking part in what could have been a strong event called nutri hunt which involved preparing a balanced diet for patients. misunderstanding regarding the points sytem also deprived us of points. i hope that these flaws regarding re-registration and scheduling of events and clarity of rules are ironed out in the next edition. however being johnites, we looked forward to the next day with optimism.
day 2: a perfect example to show what we johnites can achieve despite limited resources. we emerged first in caught in the act photography contest thanks mainly to anusha who is fast acuring a reputation of having the cameraman’s eye in inter collegiate fests. her pictures of a johnite jumping the gates , a student falling asleep in class and auto driver ignoring the rules of parking stood out among the rest. i took part in JAM where the rules were new to even me but could qualify for the finals after having topped the prelims. the most exciting event of the day was online treasure hunt. again clashing of the events made it almost impossible to take part but in the end, we managed it. the team of avian & shelon and ryan&myslef finished second acquiring the benefit of double the points for the college. the event was pure fun and involved searching the computers for file, encoding passowrds with clues and in the end a monstrously difficult jigsaw puzzle to solve which made our 2nd year subjects look easier in comparison!!!! over the past few fests it was noticed that we were lagging behind in the art events. but the batch of 2008 ensured that this time the trend would be reversed. johnites are known to be fashionable( in a gud way or the bad way) and victor from the batch of 2008 came 2nd in hairstyling and make up. shanthi also from the batch of 2008 came 1st in picturisation of verse which involved expressing sanskrit sholkas in art form. lisa from the batch of 2008 continued her good form and won the cartooning event. again if the art events were not clashing, i m sure that this trio who were supported by their batchmate prudhvi would have made an impression in other art events too. ryan colaco from my batch of 2007 made spellings look ridiculously easy and won the spelling bee contest. i am not even going to attempt to write here the words that he spelt for the simple reason that i am not sure whether i know the spellings of those words!!!! sheldon and anusha emerged 3rd in photography thanks to some brilliant tactical planning by the three of us before the event. day 2 turned out to be far better than expected and considering the events participated in, SJMC went into the lead. though the day was filled with a challenging event when 2 vehicles were towed away and ended with me bargaining for the release of them.!!!!
day 3: would we lift the overalls? we were realistic about our chances and wanted to give our best in every event. the epitome of johnite spirit could be seen in the fact that about to be interns from the batch of 2005 murtuza, romina and meenakshi BA turned up at the fest to contribute their bit. murtuza and romina finished 3rd in cooking with innovative food items like a strawberry drink called autumn muse, a chicken dish called summerslam and much more. JAM was conducted by RJ Darius who was very witty with topic like w my parents are in iron and steel business, my mom irons and my dad steals i played to the gallery and talked about stealing hearts, and i also made use of medical terms much to the annoyance of other participants and went into the lead at the end of halfway mark of 3 rounds.at this point of time i took break to attend mad ads mad ads was conducted on main stage. the team of Mad med men who had left an impression with their ice breaker which was the talk of the fest could not pull it off. though it might sound like sour grapes, we were not happy with the event. judgement as a wise man said is just perception and can vary from a person to person. though we have beaten the teams that won here and emerged 1st in the last 5 events we participated, i am not going to question the jugement as i believe in the integrity of the judges. but what was disappointing is how can the microphone get switched off and the volume go down in the middle of the event?? and what was not acceptable was the members of a team from another college standing right in front of the stage and booing other teams including us and using abusive words. indeed this reflects more on the character of the college and the people who indulged in it.
meanwhile i got back to jam and decided to play it safe and acuire less negatives and finished agonizingly a close 2nd. though i choose the genre of medical mystery in the story telling round ,i couldn’t hold onto my lead and lost by 1 objection. meanwhile kurina and karan won 3rd in history quiz and alex and team and henry and team from 2009 qualified for the general quiz finals. henry and brian from 2009 debated on the topic of how it development has made Bangalore a concrete jungle in rashtrabasha hindi and won 2nd. sheldon and avian enjoyed a ride in the hot sun of Bangalore and finished third in treasure hunt.
when it comes to music, we Johnites pride on ourselves. however due to various factors, we have not been able to participate in musical events. but this time sharan, pravin and lisa won 2nd in tamil singing with sharan bagging up the runners up spot in the solo category and in gospel siniging, sharan got 3rd for solo and sharan and lisa 2nd for duet.if they can achieve this at such such a short notice and just 1 day of practise, i think the opposition better be aware cause you are gonna be hearing a lot about them in the future. amit and milan from 2009 won 2nd in poster making. in personality jerry jacob enthralled the audience with his juggling of balls, plates and mobile phones but was interrupted after 20 seconds when my phone started vibrating. sorry jerry but you can blame jino for sending the message.!!!!!!he also made a funny introduction and did well in the other rounds including aircrash and Q&A. it was 1 of the toughest personalities and though some of us may have won in other fests at this event, except at josephs, nowhere this standard has been conducted. in the end he finished 3rd. i meanwhile won in the big fite, an event of group discussion about the recent ipl controversy.
in the end when it was time for the results we finished RUNNERS UP finishing behind SJCC and ahead of CHRIST university, vogues, SJASC, etc. what makes it remarkable is the fact that we had 0 points from stage events due to exams, vacation and other reasons and we being a medical college are always a small but a strong contingent. i would like to thank nikhil dhanpal for his guidance and giving me this opportunity. and each and every1 of you who decided to bunk class and attend this fest and make a difference. what was more heartening was the inter batch cooperation which gave hope that in the future when we have adequate represnetation we can keep the flag of st.johns flying high in these fests. thank u 2 victor and sharan and jerry, roshan and henry from 09 from 2008 for coordinating the events from their batch . and of course jino joy with his tantrums of exhaustion but nevertheless for his big support and suggestions throughout the fest. and sheldon and ryan and chang from 2007 for keeping up with me thoroughout the fest despite their vehicles being towed away.!!!!. the crowd of mcc were warm, encouraging and orgnisers of most of the events were helpful . but in the future, i hope they do iron out the flaws pointed out earlier, have more transparency and proper updating of the overall points immediately, have strict rules regarding misbehavior of other colleges and also allow nose drops inside college premises!!!! thanking each 1 of u and also you , the reader if you have managed to reach the end of this article without dozing away in between which shows that you appreciate and recognise the effort put in by these people. signing of for a 2 week sleep.

freshers day 2009 was organised by the batch of 2007 along with 2008 for the batch of 2009 under the guidance of the director and staff mentors in the audiotorium. it consisted of a one and a half hour of performances by the juniormost batch. solo performances( like hip hop style dance, rendition of a bob dylan song) were the show stealers. mad ads- like- scenes were the fillers in between the performances.the show ended with a junior performing mobile phone juggling which almost gave heart attack to those who had given their mobile phones. sumptuous refreshments were served in the food court .
On 3rd July, 2009, the Mad Med Men Inc. will be celebrating their 5th Anniversary. We Debuted on the Foyer stage on 3rd July, 2004 at the ICCs for the Mad Ads Event and bagged a 2nd place at our first performance. From there, it’s been a long journey for us…
Well, the BGR is being printed right now… We expect to get it next week and we’re planning the launch on either Wednesday, 1st of July or Friday, the 3rd of July.
